Technology Programmer

Human Head Studios, Inc. is seeking Technology Programmers for our Madison, Wisconsin video game development studio.  This position will be responsible for contributing to our existing code base to continue to push the gaming envelope for our current AAA title in cooperation with a dedicated team of developers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Working with programmers, designers, artists, and QA.
  • Development of technical design specifications and implementations.
  • Contributing ideas towards game production and development.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent debugging skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Comfortable working within an established code framework / engine.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software engineering practices.
  • Self-motivated individual passionate about video games.
  • Expertise in C/C++ and object-oriented design principles.
  • Expertise on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or both.
  • Multiple shipped game titles to your credit
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Rendering
    • Threaded programming
    • Physics
    • Networking
    • Console optimization

Preferred

  • Experience with cross-platform development.

Game Programmer

Human Head Studios, Inc. is seeking Game Programmers for our Madison, Wisconsin video game development studio.  This position will be responsible for contributing to our existing code base to continue to push the gaming envelope for our current AAA title in cooperation with a dedicated team of developers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work in cooperation with other Game programmers, technology programmers, artists, animators and level designers.
  • Quality Assurance and Debugging when incorporating assets and assure smooth implementation of updates to the game.
  • Proactively contribute ideas towards game production and development.
  • Develop technical design specifications and implementation.
  • Design, develop and implement code for game-play features.
  • Work in collaboration of the team to determine tasks for game-play techniques and timeline associated with each.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience with C/C++.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Comfortable working within an existing code base.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software engineering practices.
  • Self-motivated individual passionate about video games.

Environment Artist

Human Head is searching for a 3D Environment Artist proficient in creating models, texture maps and environmental FX for both architectural and natural environments. The ideal candidate has experience modeling and texturing assets for a diverse visual range of environments using the latest Hi-detail, multi-pass rendering methods. A solid understanding of form/proportion, color, and light for both 2D and 3D art is crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Model, texture and polish interior and exterior architecture and world objects (organic and man made) based on conceptual artwork and reference photography.
  • Create high resolution/detail texture maps and texture sets for multi-pass rendering (normal/bump, diffuse, specular, etc.)
  • Develop efficient collision models for static and dynamic environmental objects for use in physics system.
  • Develop realistic and fantastical environmental FX to increase player immersion by utilizing particle/beam and multi-pass rendering systems.
  • Develop target models for LOD system when relevant to game performance.
  • Proactively problem-solve asset and content pipeline issues when necessary, and collaborate with Art leads to improve efficiencies.
  • Work together with lead artists and level designers to create amazing, game play focused environments.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years professional 3D and 2D artist experience.
  • High degree of skill in creating efficient UV layouts for environmental assets.
  • Professional level of game related 2D skills (texture painting, tiling textures, texture sets, and object/character skins.)
  • Experienced in creating textures for multi-pass rendering and understanding of how they work together to create a given look or effect.
  • Professional level of expertise in subdivision “detail” modeling (hi-poly) and production of in game asset modeling (low-poly.)
  • Fluent knowledge of 3dsMax (preferred), Maya, Modo or equivalent 3d tools.
  • Fluent knowledge of Photoshop, or equivalent 2d tools.
  • Experience with Hi-detail modeling tools such as Z-Brush or Mudbox.
  • Lighting skills a plus.
  • Demonstrates understanding of content optimization.
  • Body of work should include one AAA console game from concept to finish.

Senior Environment Artist

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Art Director and level designers to determine and maintain environment technical specifications.
  • Model, texture and polish interior and exterior architecture and world objects (organic and man made) based on conceptual artwork and reference photography.
  • Identify best practices and effectively communicate them to the Environmental Art team.
  • Mentor and be a leader by example, encourage the same in other team members.
  • Help guide and define the game environment and effectively communicate the message to the team.
  • Create high resolution/detail texture maps and texture sets for multi-pass rendering (normal/bump, diffuse, specular, etc.)
  • Develop efficient collision models for static and dynamic environmental objects for use in physics system.
  • Develop target models for LOD system when relevant to game performance.
  • Work together with lead artists and level designers to create amazing, game play focused environments.

The ideal candidate has experience in lighting, modeling and texturing assets for a diverse visual range of environments using the latest Hi-detail, multi-pass rendering methods. A solid understanding of form/proportion, color and lighting for both 2D and 3D art is crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Art Director, level Designers and rendering Technician to establish lighting standards that meet aesthetic, design and technical requirements.
  • Create light rigs that can be shared by other Environment Artists.
  • Model, texture and polish interior and exterior architecture and world objects (organic and manmade) based on conceptual artwork and reference photography.
  • Create high resolution/detail texture maps and texture sets for multi-pass rendering (normal/bump, diffuse, specular, etc.)
  • Develop efficient collision models for static and dynamic environmental objects for use in physics system.
